Has your healthcare provider scheduled a video consultation? To call you by video, we use the Microsoft Teams app. Such a video consultation is secure and respectful of everyone’s privacy thanks to end-to-end encryption.
What do I need?
PC, tablet or smartphone
Video calls can be made on almost any device. However, a PC or tablet is more convenient than a smartphone with a small screen.
Link to the consultation
Four days before the consultation, you will receive an email with the link ‘Deelnemen aan Microsoft Teams-vergadering’ (Join Microsoft Teams meeting). The day before the appointment, you will receive a reminder email with the same link.
You will also find the same link in your personal portal Mijn UZ Gent. Go to my.uzgent.be, log in and click on 'Appointments'. Then select the appropriate appointment.
Microsoft Teams app
For a video consultation, the free version of the Microsoft Teams app is sufficient. Not yet installed on your device? Then you will automatically be asked to install the app when you click the link to the consultation. You can also download the app from microsoft.be. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. You do not need to create a Microsoft account; you can also sign in as a guest.
How do I join the consultation?
Start the consultation
- Make sure the speakers on your device are on.
- In the mail or in My UZ Gent, click on ‘Deelnemen aan Microsoft Teams-vergadering’ (Join Microsoft Teams meeting).
- Choose 'Open your Teams app'. The consultation cannot take place in the browser.
- Enter your name and click on 'Join now'.
- Wait for your healthcare provider to give you access to the consultation. This may take a while.
Join the consultation
- As soon as your healthcare provider allows you to join the conversation, your microphone will be activated. This usually happens automatically. Sometimes you will be asked to confirm the activation of your microphone.
- During the consultation, it is best to leave the camera on. You can switch it on and off by clicking on the camera icon.
- Click the red phone to end the video call.
Is this safe?
Video calls are end-to-end encrypted. This is required by law to protect the privacy of you and your healthcare provider. No one can therefore watch or listen in uninvited. You need the link to request access to the consultation.
The end-to-end encryption also ensures that you:
- cannot record the consultation
- cannot send chat messages
- cannot invite other people from within the conversation
Screen sharing is possible. For example, your healthcare provider can show you examination results during the consultation. Or you can e.g. show medical photos to your healthcare provider.
