What does a speech therapist do?
Our speech therapists are experts in communication and swallowing disorders. They help with speech and language problems, hearing problems, voice problems and swallowing problems, among other things.
The speech therapists at UZ Gent work closely with other care providers such as doctors, nurses, audiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dieticians so that they can provide the best possible care for patients. They help patients improve their communication or swallowing skills and thus enhance their quality of life.
Our speech therapists have years of experience and keep abreast of the latest developments in their field. During diagnosis and treatment, they use state-of-the-art techniques and advanced equipment.
Furthermore, our speech therapists are involved in scientific research. They study and develop new insights and treatment methods to help their patients even better. Thanks to the cooperation with UGent, speech therapists can share their knowledge and expertise with other professionals and researchers, leading to an enrichment of the field and ultimately to better care for patients.
