- Physiology of ECMO for respiratory failure
- Physiology of ECMO for circulatory failure
- Discussion of the components of the circuit
- Specific aspects for nurses
- Simulation: Indications and placement of ECMO for doctors
- Device- and circuit-specific considerations
- Circuit priming
Day 2
- Ventilation modalities in respiratory failure and VV-ECMO
- ECMO and coagulation
- Pharmacology
- VA-ECMO, VV-ECMO and VV-ECMO initiation simulations
Day 3
- Weaning and extubation of ECMO patients
- ECPR

ECLS: ADVANCED COURSE
This interprofessional course builds on the three-day ECLS basic course. During this advanced training, we will explore in greater depth the high-quality, multidisciplinary comprehensive care for ECMO patients. You can register if you have completed the basic course or if you have sufficient knowledge and experience.
Target group: All members of a multidisciplinary team who are regularly involved in the care of patients on ECLS or who have completed the three-day ECLS basic course. This course requires prior knowledge of: circuit checks, physiology in VV-ECMO, physiology in VA-ECMO, indications, and basic care and procedures for ECMO patients.
Programme
- Special configurations
- Cardiogenic shock
- Right-sided heart failure
- Heart failure pathway
- Other mechanical support
- Advanced simulations in ECMO patients
